Brazilian jiu-jitsu in Norway
Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a grappling sport where you take your opponent down and control them on the ground until they give up. No punches, no kicks. That means you can train at full speed inside your first month without ever being hit. The belts take their time in return: ten years from white to black is perfectly normal.
81 clubs across 49 Norwegian towns have brazilian jiu-jitsu on the schedule. 60 of them say so on their own pages — the rest are inferred from the type of club, and are marked as such. The clubs that publish a price sit at 299–4000 kr a month.

What an ordinary class looks like
Ninety minutes: warm-up, one technique shown in detail, drilling in pairs, and finally rolling in five-minute rounds. Nobody hits you, and you decide when a round stops by tapping. Most Norwegian BJJ clubs run a separate beginner class where the first weeks are about positions and movement rather than sparring.
What it costs to start
The trial class is free at nearly every club, and a gi is lent to you. Membership typically runs 400 to 900 kroner a month, often discounted for students. Your own gi costs from around 800 kroner and lasts for years. Buy it after a month, not before.

Questions about Brazilian jiu-jitsu
How long does a blue belt take?
Two to three years at two sessions a week is normal in Norwegian clubs. There is no fixed exam. Your instructor grades you when you can defend yourself and have a game that works.
Do I have to compete in BJJ?
No. The vast majority of people training BJJ in Norway never compete, and in most clubs grading does not depend on competition results.
Is BJJ good for children?
Yes. There are no strikes, sparring is controlled, and children learn to handle resistance without anyone hitting them. Many Norwegian clubs take entrants from around six.
